Positive Points

Constructive Criticism
|
Use of Frame
|
All frames sizes are
visually appropriate to justify the action performed by the character.
|
In the second shot the
characters head was cut from the frame, as she walked towards the camera.
|
Foreground, mid ground, background and depth
|
Different foregrounds, mid
grounds, backgrounds and depth has been achieved throughout.
|
A lot of close and mid depth
was explored, but because of the characters head being chopped off in the
second frame, I should have implemented a bit more long depth to this frame
and experimented a little bit more with reference to initial depth.
|
Perspective, Vantage point and
POV
|
The perspective and vantage
point was achieved.
|
Point of view was not
explored in this exercise. I should have included this to give a viewer a
better understanding on what I was
initially trying to achieve.
|
Positive and Negative space
|
This was effectively
achieved and as a result the character is identified within their actual surroundings.
|
To cover more areas of
space, I could have included more effective angles, such as high, low, bird
and worm angles.
|
Line and Shape
|
Line and shape have been
implemented successfully throughout the video.

|
Lighting and Contrast
|
Interior and exterior
lighting was used effectively to create contrast within this video.
|
Contrast was not necessary
as the video was constructed during the day.
|
Mood and Tone
|
Tone was implemented when I
filmed through a bush area to create the mood of the character.
|
Not applicable.
|
Colour
|
Natural colours were
depicted throughout to convey the realism of the set.

|
Texture, Pattern and Rhythm
|
A mixture of texture,
pattern and rhythm was achieved. Texture was shown through the layered image
of trees and foliage. Horizontal and
vertical pattern can be established through the stairs and railings and
rhythm of pace is established through the characters constant walking pace.
|
A couple of close up shots
of the trees and bushes around my character would give a better sense of
texture.
|
Including and Excluding elements
|
This was not necessary for
this video.
|
Not applicable.
|
Proxemics
|
I have tried to implement
proxemics to depict the kinetic movement of my character and show the exact
space within, the set frame.
|
Not applicable.

Evaluation
The edges of
my images create a ‘frame’ that include and exclude different aspects of what I
could visually see through the camera. Basically, the camera shot size I
initially chose dictated what would be included or excluded from the mise-en-scene.
Many of my camera shot sizes were accurately implemented, but the second shot
failed to show my characters head, as she walked down some stairs, towards the
camera. To correct this in the future, I will endeavour to calculate a better
distance between the camera and character and pan the movement accordingly.
The use of art elements helped to
impact a better viewing and establishment. In the video I tried to implement
three dimensional, vertical, horizontal and zigzag line elements to direct the
viewer’s eye and at the same time I tried to achieve a sense of space and
substance through the use of shape and form. The different textures explored in
this video add a sense of interest and the colour enhanced their impact. For
example in the last frame, the texture of the tree bark in the foreground is
three dimensional and rough in shape, but the colour of the autumn leaves, add
a brighter tone to the natural surroundings and in the previous frame, the tree
in the background with the natural cascading sunlight is almost picture perfect
with the complimentary contrasting dark and bright tones. The colour
contrasting colour tones will inevitably have an effect on the mood. My only
real criticism is that I should have implemented a couple of point of view
shots to depict not only what my character was looking at, but more of the
mise-en-scene would have been explored. To further this notion, more effective
camera angles should have also been explored to include more positive space.
The use of photographic techniques
such as the rule of thirds and dynamic diagonals in this video exercise was
achieved, although narrow, shallow and deep focus was not employed. This is an
area I feel I need some practice in and will endeavour to do so, as I believe
this will give more impact and variety to my shots. I tried to use shots that
relate to near-ground, mid-ground and background to add variety and
establishment.
The space I decided to place my
opening credit titles, in the frames, followed no particular pattern and they
were not symmetrical at all. This defies general conventions but the pace of their
flow had an even rhythm. I decided to align the credits in a dark bold font
against a light background and align light bold font credits against a dark
background for contrast and easy visual. However, the main title was aligned
bottom centre in a very large, bold font. I feel that in the future, I need to
pay special attention to the positioning of the title credits and experiment
opting for unusual, but expectable layouts.
